Ethics and Law in New Media 1

Study Theobald's question of 'mind-quake', find a real-life example and describe it

Mind-quake, like Obama, is about change, about something new which is moving the cornerstones of past. The old ways don´t work so well, as the new ones. A good example is Youtube and its users, hundreds of bedroom superstars who broadcast one man comedy shows, tutorials from how to paint your nose hear to the creation of a spaceship and just bulls*it, well a lot of it, but that´s not the case. So much creativity, knowledge and talent is shared every second around the world that it is mind blowing. Something that was impossible years ago.

Pick one of Handy's paradoxes, find a good real-life illustrative case and describe it

The paradox of time - The application of modern technology means less time is needed to make and do things. People should have more spare time. But time has become a competitive weapon and getting things done quickly is imperative. As a result, many of those who work have less time than ever before. As technology grows and expands, many processes can be handled faster and even better, that should give more time to people, but they have it even less. One process goes faster, but new processes are merged as well. The halo of information is glowing in the background and technology is hijacking time from families. To be faster and up to date you have to spend more time mining for information, which eventually leads to more time loss.
